Portage Required, But Oh What a View!
| The Scott Avenue dam is the last obstacle between Des Moines and
Red Rock dam, some 60 miles downstream. The Des Moines and Raccoon Rivers merge into one
mighty river at Sec Taylor Stadium, to the left. The bike trail that runs through the city
along the levee on the east bank can be reached from the river bank just above the Center
St. dam 1 mile north, which also requires portage. The bike trail leads to the Harriet St.
boat ramp, less than a mile to the south. |
