December 18,1998 The Beautiful Land, Near Bentonsport The last 12 miles of my 400 mile journey began with a winter camp out overnight at the Bentonsport campground, just below this scenic overlook on Hwy. J40. There may not be any snow, but it was Dec. 18, and it was below freezing. Next time, I'll stay at the Mason House. |

December 19, 1998 The morning of December 19 dawned cold and cloudy. I left the tow car at the Bentonsport boat ramp before dawn, and drove the boat to Keosauqua, which is Indian for "Big Bend." The steel bridge and Lacey-Keosauqua Park are in the background. |
