Loading Up the Gear

The bend in the river at Keosauqua is the largest on the Des Moines. The kayak is able to hold all the gear needed for a comfortable and safe trip (snacks and drinks, spare clothes, an extra paddle, straps and locks, GPS and cellular phone), but it takes a while to load it all.

Smooth, calm river

The Great Bend from the
Keosauqua Boat Ramp

I had paddled some 13 miles of the bend from Selma in October. To complete the trip to Bentonsport, I would need to paddle about 4 miles to the north, and another 4 miles to the southeast.
