S.S. Enrich Iowa Steams up to the Historic District, Bentonsport.

Between 1840 and 1860, hundreds of steamboats came through the locks at Bonaparte and moored at this site. It was quite a thrill to make the river passage to this historic river town. I felt I had earned my fudge and my trip to the general store, where I purchased an 1846 map of Iowa.

Tow cars at boat ramp

Tow Cars Reunited, with Kayak

With the wonderful restored iron truss bridge as a background, the tow cars enjoy a moment of peace at the Bentonsport boat ramp. There was still 5 miles of paddling to go, down to Bonaparte, which I finished by 2 pm. This completed a journey of 400 miles, 160,000 paddle strokes, in 40 trips over a 15 month stretch.
