 On the Rocks, Not . . .
May 18-19, 1999

High water makes it possible to pass through Bonaparte rapids on the historic waterfront of this restored 1840's steamboat town, one of the villages of Van Buren County. The remains of a lock and dam are on the river bank, in the center, with the old woolen mill and the Bonaparte Retreat restaurant behind.

Successful Passage . . .
May 18-19, 1999

The point of the day was to get through the Bonaparte rapids, which I would walk the boat around under normal water conditions. This was a quick trip, with barely enough time to get a shot of the old caboose as I passed under the Mormon bridge at J40.
