Mason House, Bentonsport . . . May 18-19, 1999 The oldest hotel on the river, built in 1840 by Mormon craftsman. My wife and I stayed here, and it's lovely. This night, I camped in the wonderful campground, under the stars, by the rushing river.

Is it Vermont? No, It's Heaven . .
. The mist, the hills, the cloud mountains remind me of the pastures near Middlebury, Vt. This is Hwy. J40 between Bentonsport and Bonaparte as I set out early on May 19 for a paddle from Farmington to St. Francisville, Mo., a trip of about 18 miles. |
