High bluffs near St. Francisville . . .

This is probably the widest section of the Des Moines, at least 600 feet as you make the turn toward the toll bridge. It was afternoon, the river was sparkling, and then I had to exit the boat in about 6 inches of mud at the Ft. Pike boat ramp. The mud in the river is precious soil, doesn't that bother anyone else?

The End of the Trail . . .
May 18-19, 1999

Red Wing Access in Keokuk was my last stop before driving home. I was pleased to find excellent directional signs. The area is clean, the boat ramp is usable, and the Hwy. 61 bridge just before the great Mississippi is in the background.
