The Humboldt County Des Moines River Restoration Committee has launched its campaign to raise funds to restore the Rutland Dam Area. |
| The restoration effort has been broken
down into four phases. PHASE I: Repair and restore Dam. This is being done by the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors. PHASE II: Install boat ramp, dock, dredge creek area, install restrooms, parking area and lights. PHASE III: Develop park area with: shelter house, overnight and primitive camping areas, put picnic tables and grills around the park, tie in and loop down Three Rivers Trail. Renovate Pump House into restaurant and museum of Rutland and Humboldt County. Further efforts after this will be to help communities up and down river develop areas similar to this. This stretch of the Des Moines River is beautiful and this effort will allow excellent boating, fishing and recreational opportunities for all citizens of Iowa. The estimated cost of this project is $500,000. The committee is asking for donations to help fund this project. FYI: Grant was approved to: put in boat ramp, dock, security lighting, parking area, and rerock entrance and post recreational signs on highways 3 and 169 in the amount of $14,501.00. Total project costs of $17,600 so we have some money
to raise yet. " Date: May 5, 1999 Humboldt County was awarded a Marine Gas Tax grant in the amount of $14,501.00 for ramp, dock, dredging creek area, security lighting, and parking lot and rocking entrance. Have started "first annual rubber duckie race on the Des Moines River. Juyl10th, 9:00am, ducks go from Berkemer bridge to lower sheldon park. 2,000 ducks purchased, $10.00 each. lst- 1,000, 2nd- 750 3rd-500 4th-250. All proceeds go towards development of Rutland Dam area. Fort Dodge has hired a consultant to give ideas on river front development, the idea is starting to move down river!
