Return About the Des Moines River Water Trail

The Des Moines River Water Trail  information page has Access points, Latitude and Longitude, Obstacles, Directions, Attractions and Links along 404 miles of the scenic and historic Des Moines River.

Read more about the history of the river.  The Chief Wapello memorial tells the story of two men whose friendship was crucial in the peaceful transfer of land near Agency, Iowa in 1842.

View the official map of the water trail counties.  There was an official river trail designation on June 24, 2000.  Events were held in counties from Emmet to Lee.  The river trail was dedicated (see photos) during a ceremony at Fraser.  We even had our river trail logo and sign, which will be available for river trails throughout Iowa.  The Lt. Governor read a proclamation about the beauty and importance of Iowa's rivers, then paddled with about 60 river guests in canoes from Seven Oaks outfitters
