July 10, 1999, The Humboldt County Des Moines River Restoration Committee held a fund raiser to help restore the Rutland Dam and enhance facilities at the park.  More than 800 plastic ducks were sponsored, at $10 per duck.  I enjoyed watching the duck races and meeting people at the post-race picnic.

The people of  Humboldt County are very friendly, very conservation-oriented, and knowledgeable about the benefits of a river trail.  I enjoyed meeting many of you with whom I've corresponded.
