Boone, August, 1997

In Iowa, it's the "factory-farms" for hogs that have come under fire. The family farmers
have been out in force at the capitol for the past several sessions. It seems to be more of
a problem near the northern and southern borders.

I did get in a good row...about 16 miles, from Boone to Madrid. I rode my bike back to
the van, about 17 miles. It was 4 hours down, about 2 hours back. I'm tired, but it feels
great. Now I'm looking at some trips south of Des Moines. I found a great access ramp
near Hartford (a town of about 200 souls).

It's been hot here....the state fair begins in a couple of days. I'm looking forward to the
butter cow and the butter Elvis.
