| Return | Saturday, February 21, 2004 Just below Sycamore Access, snow white and diamond blue. The river was blue, brown and white from a sandbar in the middle of the river. Geese in the snow at 36x magnification. The geese were skittish this day. There were hundreds more in the air as I took this photo. Cottonwood pier, driftwood in foreground. This is the kind of day I love, walking in the cold clear water, crisp but bright, geese and ducks overhead. Iowa is a world of natural beauty to be enjoyed and cherished. Taking flight, video clip requires Apple Quicktime (free download from www.apple.com) 360 degree view of natural beauty, from a sandbar in the middle of the Des Moines River. This is a 10 MB video file. The water is a deep blue, with sparkling light. Park shelters, snow and rocks, the fishing pier, a deep blue sky. Look for a surprise in the sky at the end of the clip. (Requires Quick Time) Muti-colored pebbles are a delight to see, but you have to stand in the rushing water at the Cottonwood riffle. It helps to have a gorgeous sunny day and the good mukluks from Canoesport! The sight and sound of the cold, clear rushing water at the Cottonwood riffle. This is a 5 MB file, requires Quicktime.
